Broken links and redirects: the potholes of your site
Every site, over the years, piles up moved pages, removed products, changed addresses. Left untended, they become potholes.
A link to a non-existent page is a small betrayal: the person was looking for something and finds emptiness. And Google, following the same links, wastes trust and time on dead ends. Too many holes and the site looks neglected, to visitors and to indexing.
How to fix them
When a page changes address, redirect cleanly to the new one, with no endless chains. When a page really disappears, offer a useful alternative instead of a cold error. And check the links now and then, inside and out, because other people's sites change too.
It is maintenance, like patching asphalt: unnoticed when done, very noticed when missing.
How we do it: we find and fix broken links and redirects, so people and engines never trip.
