Made for the thumb: buttons you tap without missing

On a phone you do not click with a mouse's precision: you tap with your thumb, often in a hurry, maybe while walking.

It is a difference that changes everything. A button that is fine on a computer can be too small or too close to another on a phone. The result is the frustration of tapping the wrong thing, zooming to hit a link, trying twice. Small annoyances that, added up, make people leave.

The rules of the thumb

Buttons large enough to hit the first time, with space around them so they are not confused. Important actions in the zone the thumb reaches easily, low and central, not in the top corners. Enough distance between nearby links, so one tap does not trigger another. And generous tap areas, larger than what is visible.

Not a nerd detail: it is the difference between a site used with pleasure and one that makes people curse.
